Hong Kong qualified from being second in the AHF Cup last December to participate in this top tier competition in Asia. The tournament started last Saturday. Eight teams were seeded and divided into two pools. After the pool stage, Hong Kong have lost all three matches but they have picked themselves up and will play against Kazakstan today to get a place in the 5th/6th classification match tomorrow.
In the last pool match against China, Hong Kong was able to put up a good defensive game and lost only 0:7. For other results, please visit: http://asiahockey.org/6th-womens-junior-asia-cup/
Due to the change in eligibility requirements which allow only HKSAR/BNO passport holders to represent Hong Kong, a relatively new team has been sent to this tournament with three players collecting their first caps and five collecting their second. The team will certainly gain a lot of international exposure in this major competition and in time they will be ready for bigger challenges such as the Asian Games qualification tournament which will be held in Bangkok next February.
