The 5th Grand Masters Asian Cup 2019 was successfully held in Donghae, Korea on 17-23 October 2019. The Hong Kong Team was delighted to have competitive games with the opponents – Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

Results:

Hong Kong vs Korea 1-2

Hong Kong vs Japan 3-4

Hong Kong vs Malaysia 2-3

Hong Kong vs Singapore 1-2

Hong Kong finished fifth in the Asian Grand Masters Hockey Tournament held in Donghae Korea.

Given that we had to play ‘out of competition’ with the players that we had, the great thing was that all the games were competitive and we had chances to get results in all of the games – particularly disappointing in the last match against Singapore when we had a good number of chances that would have given us a positive result.

The excellent team spirit and commitment from all our players really showed in the games and we can hold our heads high with the performances that we gave,  and we are thankful to our different ‘recruits’ who helped us on each of the days.

Special thanks go to Kevin Dempster and Rod Hurst who helped in all of our games and performed well throughout, and it was also good to have our different Korean players each day – as well as a final appearance by our Alliance recruits.

Thank you to David Fargus for assisting as our Tour Manager, thanks to our supporters  for being a good part of the tour, and we have also thanked our hotel team who made us so welcome in Donghae.

The trip to Donghae was a long one, but it turned out to be a good place to enjoy the food, climate and scenery, and with staying in the same hotel as some of the other teams it made for a good sociable event.

With best regards,

Simon Shepherdson
